QUESTIONS? LET’S CLEAR THINGS UP.
Frequently wandered questions.
Travel planning shouldn’t leave you with more questions than answers.
From how working with a travel advisor actually works to pricing, perks and how involved you can be in planning your own trip, here are answers to some of the questions I’m asked most often.
What exactly does a travel advisor do?
Think of me as your travel planning partner. I can help you research destinations, compare hotels and cruises, make recommendations, arrange bookings and bring the different pieces of your trip together.
More importantly, you have a real person who understands what you’re looking for and can advocate for you with travel partners — before, during and after your trip. Fora describes this personalised knowledge of a client’s likes, dislikes and preferences as one of the key differences between an advisor and an anonymous booking platform or call centre.
I love researching my own trips. Do I really need a travel advisor?
Absolutely — keep researching!
Working with me doesn’t mean handing over control of your holiday. You can involve me as much or as little as you like. Research every restaurant and hotel yourself, send me your shortlist and let me handle the bookings — or give me a blank canvas and let me do the research for you.
I can then add the finishing touches, check the details and see whether my partner relationships unlock additional benefits. Fora specifically encourages this flexible approach: travellers can remain heavily involved in their own research while using their advisor for bookings, added value and final details.
Can’t I just book the same trip myself?
Sometimes, yes — but where and how something is booked can make a difference.
Through Fora, I have access to preferred relationships with hotels and travel partners that may provide benefits such as preferred rates, upgrades, breakfast, property credits or other amenities. You’re also getting my planning and support alongside the booking rather than simply completing a transaction online.
Is it more expensive to book through you?
Not at all. The hotel or travel partner pays commission to the travel agency rather than adding a separate advisor fee to your booking.
Some trips require considerably more research, itinerary design or planning. If a separate planning fee applies to your trip, I’ll always make that clear before we get started.
Why did I find a cheaper price online?
A lower headline price doesn’t always mean a better deal.
Rates can differ because of room type, cancellation terms, inclusions, taxes and fees, or promotional conditions. My goal isn’t simply to find the lowest number on the screen — it’s to help you find the best overall value and experience for your trip.
And if you find a great rate, send it to me. I’m happy to compare it and see what we can do. Fora similarly positions an advisor as a value-add service rather than a discount service.
What is Fora?
Fora is a modern travel agency and the host agency I work with as a Fora Certified Travel Advisor.
Being part of Fora connects me to its wider network of advisors, hotel partners, cruise lines and travel suppliers. That means you get my personal service, backed by the knowledge, relationships and resources of a much larger travel community.
What are Fora’s preferred partner perks?
Fora participates in preferred partner programmes with hotels and hospitality groups around the world. Depending on the hotel, rate and programme, booking through me may unlock benefits such as room upgrades, breakfast, hotel credits, welcome amenities, early check-in or late check-out.
The exact benefits vary by property and are always subject to the applicable programme terms and availability. Fora’s FAQ also notes that these preferred programmes can provide access to invitation-only amenities and upgrades.
Can I still earn my hotel loyalty points?
Yes. Fora specifically notes that travellers can continue earning loyalty rewards with their preferred hotel programmes when eligible bookings are made through a Fora Advisor.
If earning points or maintaining status is important to you, tell me when we start planning so I can take it into consideration.
What’s the difference between booking with you and using an online travel agency (OTA), such as Booking.com?
An online travel agency is designed to make transactions at scale. I’m here to provide personalised advice and support.
Instead of starting from scratch with a different customer-service representative if something goes wrong, you have someone who already knows your trip and can work with the relevant travel partners to help resolve issues. Fora highlights its advisors’ direct hotel relationships and ability to double-check reservations and troubleshoot when travel doesn’t go according to plan.
What about booking through my credit card travel programme?
Credit-card programmes can offer excellent benefits, and you don’t necessarily need to stop using your card simply because you work with me.
The difference is personalisation. I get to know how you travel, what matters to you and the details of your trip. Instead of interacting primarily with a booking portal or call centre, you have a dedicated advisor looking at the journey as a whole. That distinction between personalised advisor service and call-centre support is a major theme of Fora’s client guidance.
Do you only book luxury travel?
Not at all. Great travel doesn’t have to mean five-star everything. I can help with everything from a quick getaway or city break to a cruise, resort holiday, road trip or bucket-list adventure.
It’s less about how much you spend and more about finding the right experience for your budget and travel style.
Do you only book places you’ve personally visited?
No. My own travels give me valuable first-hand experience, but no travel advisor could personally visit every destination, hotel or ship in the world.
Through Fora, I can draw on the shared knowledge and experience of thousands of other advisors in addition to my own research and partner resources. The Fora material specifically highlights this collective advisor expertise as one of the advantages of its network.
Can you book cruises?
Absolutely! In fact, they’re one of my specialties.
From spectacular ocean ships and intimate yachts to river and expedition cruises, I can help you navigate the different cruise lines, ships, itineraries, cabin categories and fare options to find your perfect match.
Your trip doesn’t have to begin and end at the port — I can also help bring together the hotels and other travel arrangements around your sailing.
Can you book flights?
I can help incorporate flights into the wider planning of your trip where appropriate. However, my service is primarily focused on creating the overall travel experience — your stays, cruises, destinations and experiences — rather than operating as a flight-only booking service.
What happens if something goes wrong while I’m travelling?
Travel occasionally throws a curveball. Because I already know your itinerary, I can help communicate with the travel partners involved and work with them to find a solution where possible. Fora gives examples such as updating transfers or adjusting arrangements when delays affect a traveller’s plans.
I can’t control airlines, weather or every unexpected event — but you won’t have to figure everything out entirely on your own.
How involved do I need to be?
As involved as you want to be. Want me to research and recommend everything? Great. Already have a colour-coded spreadsheet and twelve hotel tabs open? Also great.
This is your trip. My role is to meet you where you are, add expertise where it helps and make the process of getting from “Where should we go?” to “When do we leave?” a whole lot easier.

Still have questions?
